Gingrich called last week's GOP presidential debate "ludicrous."

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The 2008 presidential campaign is like a reality show, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says.

"There are a lot of smart people who are running very hard," said Gingrich, who is considering getting into the race.

"But they have allowed themselves to be talked into a consultant-driven model, which is the equivalent -- it's a mixture of 'American Idol,' 'The Bachelor' and 'Survivor."'

Gingrich said recent candidate debates "were ludicrous."

"...we don't have a national discussion."

"We have to act independently of the White House. You do not serve the president, you serve with the president," Mr. Gingrich said, according to a Republican present at the dinner, which was closed to the press.

"Newt blew the group away,"
said another Republican who attended the dinner.
"He is on such a different intellectual plane. "

Newt - On the Border

Newt teams up again - Rep. Bart Gordon is chairman of the House Committee on Science and Technology.

For a Washington Times Op-Ed
http://www.washtimes.com/op-ed/20070116-085700-4481r.htm

"Therefore, we are joining the Task Force on the Future of American Innovation, a coalition of business and academic organizations, in calling on the president to add Department of Defense research to his competitiveness initiative, make this a part of his State of the Union address later this month, and include it in his budget in February.

National security and economic competitiveness are linked in reality - they should be linked by national policy as well."
=============

Newt says – “We must confront the reality that we are not where we wanted to be nor where we need to be.

We have not captured Bin Laden.

We have not defeated the Taliban in its sanctuaries in Northwest Pakistan.

We have not stopped the recruitment of young fanatics into terrorism.

We have not stopped either the Iranian or the North Korean nuclear programs.

We do not have a stable democratic Pakistan capable of securing its own nuclear weapons.

Neither Afghanistan nor Iraq is stable and secure.

The United Nations is unreformed and
we have failed to convince the people of America and of our fellow democracies of the correctness and necessity of what we are doing.

We have vastly more to do than we have even begun to imagine.”

Mr. Gingrich,
former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, is a
senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and the
author of "Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America" (Regnery, 2005).
==========

Just saw Newt on O’Reilly’s show.

He said, If BuSh was Serious about immigration he would have listed about 7 things –

This is what we are going to do – 1-2-3-4-5-6-7.

The Next morning 25 Helicopters land at the border, loaded with fencing,

and start to put up fence.

THAT WAY THE PEOPLE WOULD KNOW HE WAS SERIOUS.

Otherwise – it is just TALK.

MORE CONDOM EDUCATION NEEDED

NEWT = "I think they are showing a greater willingness to look for new suggestions, new ideas, new approaches than at any time in the presidency,"
"I think they realize the larger system has failed:
They are not where they want to be on Iraq;
the first week after Katrina was an absolute failure."
